Writing this is kind of bittersweet...

My friend Rachel Sweet asked me to take photos of her and her awesome husband Curtis in the desert before they move away from Ridgecrest. In the short time that they were here, I am very thankful for the opportunity I was able to experience getting to know Rachel as we both volunteered at church working with the youth. For one, Rachel is a fellow Latina like myself, but not just any Latina. She has Caribbean Puerto Rican roots from her parents (I am also a Caribbean Latina). So getting to know her better, was a real comforting experience for me. Not only did I discover that we had a lot of things in common, but Rachel is an amazing individual and I am glad she and Curtis gave little old Ridgecrest a chance on their journey. You know, when you find your tribe, you kind of just wish you could hang on to them for as long as you can. That's why this is bittersweet to write.

When Rachel asked me to take their photos, I was pleasantly surprised and honored. Surprised because it meant she liked my photography style and honored because it made my heart very appreciative of being chosen to do this for them. Their session was full of love and connection, and I loved how their gallery reflects that. I think connection and affection are super important to have portrayed in photography because relationships is what it's all about.

During their session, we walked to all of the different spots I like in the desert. Interestingly enough, I also found some new ones that you can't see in the example below but that I also love, like a patch of bushes filled with yellow flowers along a path with the warm California sky behind them. Dreamy. I let them know I wanted to capture them as they are in their element with one another, and I believe that is what we did. It was super sweet to see how Curtis loves Rachel and shows her his love. I'm a sucker for that. Here's a peek at their gallery...

Rachel and Curtis, know that those of us who got to meet you and know you here in Ridgecrest will miss you so much. Thank you for all that you did in our little community's schools and for our youth at church. You will be missed but we wish you nothing but the best in all of your endeavors. I hope in the not too distant future after you move, we can meet again. We love you Sweets!
